Recipes for Leftover Halloween Candy

published by Francesca Fiore on Oct 28, 2009

Trying to use up some of that Halloween loot? Try these recipes to transform not-so-great candy to yummy treats.

At our house, all the good candy like bite-sized candy bars, gummies, and skittles get eaten over a few weeks, but the cheap stuff that makes up the bulk of the Halloween haul is left abandoned, especially since more holidays with better treats are approaching.  The following two recipes will help rid you of the hardest to unload candies of all, those generic hard candies and candy corn.

Stained Glass Windows

Since Christmas is coming up, aside those hard candies to make these beautiful cookies.

2/3 c. butter, softened

1 c. sugar

1/2 t. vanilla

2 eggs

3 c. flour

2 t. baking powder

1/2 t. salt

1/3 c. milk

Hard Candy

Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla.  Work in all other ingredients, beside the candy. Roll out and cut out cookies using cookie cutters or a knife and then cut out a hole in the middle of each cookie.  Put crushed hard candy in the center of each on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees F, for 6 minutes or until the candy in melted.  Let the cookies cool and the centers harden before removing from the baking sheet.

Candy Corn Bark

People either love candy corn or hate it.  If you’re one of the latter, don’t toss it, make this quick, easy recipe instead.

16 chopped oreos or other sandwich cookies

1 1/2 c. broken pretzels

1/3 c. raisins, craisins or other small dried fruit

1 1/2 pounds white chocolate

2 c. candy corn

On a greased baking sheet spread cookies, pretzels and raisins.  Melt chocolate and pour over everything on the sheet.  Top with candy corn and let cool until hard.
