Steamed Plums with Yogurt

published by A Bromley on Apr 23, 2012

My grandmother used to make this but instead of yogurt that I use she made a vanilla custard, either way is delicious and it makes a wonderful breakfast, a great lunch and a superb dessert following dinner. You can’t miss with this and plums are very good for you; so is yogurt.

STEAMED PLUMS with YOGURT

In a heavy sauce pan over medium heat place

2 cups pitted plums cut into bite size pieces (I use the plump red plums)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 Tbsp. honey

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp. lemon juice

Pinch of ground nutmeg with

1 cup hot water

Bring to boil stirring constantly

Reduce to low, cover and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and scorching. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.  Cover and refrigerate an leftovers.

Serve over a sauce dish of plain yogurt or vanilla custard. If using as a dinner dessert over custard add a dab of whipped cream and a sprinkle of chopped nuts for garnish.  I had some left over and discovered it is a great addition to liven up a bowl of oatmeal too.

My mom does one very similar except that it’s rhubarb instead of plums.
