Chocolate Bowls

To make these you will need:

  • small round-shaped balloons
  • milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate wafers (available in grocery bulk section)
  • baking sheet, lightly greased
  • knife with sharp tip or a needle

The process

Over medium heat, melt the wafers in a double broiler (water method).  At least 3 cups of unmelted chocolate is needed, because you will need the depth.

While the chocolate is melting, blow up a few balloons (to about the size of your fist) and tie.

When the chocolate has melted, remove from heat to cool slightly. Now, holding on to the balloon by the tied knot, dip the balloon HALF WAY into the chocolate, gently swirling to coat evenly. Slowly lift out the balloon, and hold it above the chocolate to allow the excess to drip back into the pan. Place the chocolate covered balloons onto a lightly greased baking sheet and put the sheet in the refrigerator. Let set for about 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden. After it has hardened, gently poke a hole at the top of the balloon, close to the knot with the tip of a sharp knife (or use a needle) to deflate it. Carefully remove the deflated balloon from the chocolate bowl.

Now your bowls are ready to fill with your Valentine’s favorite things…chocolate covered strawberries, berries with whipped cream, ice cream with sprinkles, pudding, etc. But be careful, as chocolate is an aphrodisiac :)
