Wonderful Ideas for 4th of July Desserts

published by Regina Sunderland on Jul 18, 2007

Recipes you can make with your kids during the hot summer month.

Every year for at least one month in advance woman’s magazines bring us wonderful Ideas for deserts that we can stun our friends, colleagues and families with on 4th of July. Usually they are always the same variations of the same classics. The colors of the frosting are held in Red, White and Blue.

How about trying out some simple summer fun desert that even the youngest among us can try.

Red, White and Blue Jell-O Cups

Wonderful for those on a diet, with diabetes or just love the taste of jelly.

You Need:

  • 1 Pack of either Strawberry or Cherry Jell-O (personal choice)
  • 1 Pack of Blueberry or Mountain Blast Jell-O
  • Whipped Cream (either original or light)
  • 4 small umbrellas or other fun party favors to decorate

Method:

Simply follow the Directions on the packages on making the Jell-O. In the Jell-O Cups or glass you want to layer it by 1/3. First the Red, then the Whipped Cream and finally the Blue.

Give it another quirt or dollop of Whipped Cream if desired. Keep cool in refrigerator until ready to serve. Don’t forget to have your kids put the little Umbrellas or other small Party Favor Decorations on top.

(Idea came out of a Woman’s World Magazine a couple of Years ago).

Peanut Butter Pie (No Bake)

Most of us love Peanut Butter and it is one of those messy, yet simple enough Deserts that the Kids can have making. In this Summer Heat, we want to slave as little as possible in the Kitchen. This no bake time is quick to make.

You Need:

  • Peanut Butter creamy approx 1 cup (I only use Jiffy)
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Sugar
  • 1 tub of Cool Whip
  • 1 Package of original Cream Cheese (Philadelphia works best for taste)
  • ½ Sugar granulated
  • 1 Oreo Cookie Graham Pie Shell

Method:

Mix Peanut Butter and Cream Cheese together in Bowl until well blended. Add Sugar and Vanilla Sugar. Fold the Cool Whip under slowly until it is all mixed well together. Put mixture in Oreo Cookie Pie Shell. Let cool in Refrigerator for at least 3 Hours.

You can serve it up as is after cooling or decorate it with Whip Cream (Can) and Chocolate slivers.

Note: This desert is very high in Calories and is very filling. You only need a small Piece to enjoy this wonderful Treat. (This Recipe has been in my Family for a couple of Years now. It was told to me by a Friend that loves Peanut Butter)

4th of July Cup Cakes

Again simple and you can make it ahead of time. Make sure you keep your eyes on the little Bakers; I have yet to manage to keep all the Cup Cakes until the Meal or get together.

You Need:

  • 6 Eggs
  • Oil
  • Water
  • 1 Box of Betty Crocker Vanilla Cake Mix
  • 1 Box of Betty Crocker Strawberry Cake Mix
  • 1 Tub of either White of Vanilla Frosting
  • Blue Food Coloring
  • Red, White and Blue Sprinkles or M&M’s

Method:

Prepare the Cake mixes as directed. Split the Vanilla Mix in half. Leave one regular and add blue food coloring to the other half until you have the blue you desire.

Fill the lined Cup Cake holders with 1/3 each layers of strawberry, vanilla and blue colored vanilla cake mix.

Bake at 350 until done and toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely. Frost with the Vanilla frosting and either decorate with sprinkles or M&M’s.

I hope you enjoy these simple 4th of July Ideas. Best of all they are quick and cheap to make. You can make all three deserts for under $20.00 combined.
