A Mieta Cocktail

published by Robotkev on Oct 20, 2009

A sophisticated cocktail made from Polish bisongrass vodka, fresh mint and cranberry juice.

This is a fine cocktail which is not often seen on menus.  I learned to make it in a flavour of the month – now defunct bar in central London.  It uses bisongrass vodka which has a unique flavour owing the stick of polish bisongrass infusing its flavour in he bottle.  It is also a built drink not requiring he use of a shaker.

Ingredients

  • Bisongrass vodka
  • Cranberry juice
  • Fresh mint
  • Sugar syrup(sugar gomme)
  • Crushed ice

Utensils:

1 x highball or tall glass/tumbler

1 x muddling stick (can use the base of a bar spoon)

1 x bar spoon

Method

  1. Rip a few leaves off the mint and push them towards the bottom of the glass then drizzle some sugar syrup(about a level spoonful) on the mint.  Muddle(mush) the mint using a muddling stick or the flat end of the bar spoon(or anything flat you can safely get to the bottom of the glass) and leave the bar spoon standing in the glass.
  2. Fill the glass with crushed Ice and add in a double measure (50ml) of Bisongrass vodka.
  3. Pull the bar spoon up from  the bottom of the glass taking most of the mint with it so it is distributed up through the ice.  Set the bar spoon aside
  4. Float a little cranberry juice on the top so it bleeds down through the ice
  5. Garnish with a sprig of mint

This drink is very moreish as the English would say.
