Chai Tea

published by Cyn Bagley on Jun 5, 2008

This recipe is a quick and easy way to make chai. My first taste of this tea was in South Africa. We used to go to the Indian markets, eat spicy foods, and drink the tea. It was a great experience.

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tea bags of black tea

Mixture:

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom

Method:

  1. Combine water and milk in a pan. Add mixture and two tea bags to the liquid. Bring to a slow boil.
  2. Strain. Put in cups.

Makes 2 servings.

Note: You can experiment with the tea. I usually use only one tea bag due to health constraints. I have also used green tea, but it does not taste as good.

Yes Cyn, that’s how I was offered tea in India but I can’t have milk in it. We had no milk when I was growing up in Africa – only powdered milk. Disgusting. So I never take it in tea so I had to learn how to say no milk, no sugar pretty quickly in India.
Good recipe though – for appreciaters of milk.

    Thanks Rask,

I learned to make this in South Africa when I was there in the early 1980s. I learned to love chai with rusks.
