A Cocktail for Each Season
Four recipes for cocktails, each a totally different kind, matched with a certain time of year. Three are easy to make but one is a bit harder.
I have assembled four of my favorite cocktails here. One for each season, so that no matter the mood, you can mix something real smooth. I have first summed up the ingredients and then I explain how to mix the drink. I chose cocktail that are easy to make. Don’t drink too much of these beauties, but don’t skip over them either.
A Daiquiri for in Spring
Ingredients:
- 2 cl of lemon juice (the fresher the better)
- 4 cl of white rum (I prefer Havana club over bacardi, but any white rum will do)
- 1 tea spoon or bar spoon of sugar syrup (you can make your own, equal amounts of water and equal amounts of sugar, heat until the sugar dissolves, then put in the fridge)
Method:
- Put some ice-cubes in a shaker; pour the lemon juice, rum and sugar syrup in the shaker.
- Close, shake and sift into a glass. (The ice cubes can’t go into the glass, otherwise when they dissolve, they will add water to the drink. If you need the ice cubes, use sugar instead of sugar syrup, but that’s always a risk)
Notes:
Great taste, good name and simple to make, rum, sugar, water and lemon juice. How hard can it be? You can add decorations and the cocktail makes a great basis for mixing, add a fruit juice or anything else and you’ll have a mango, strawberry, banana, whatever you like-daiquiri)
A Green Coconut for the Summer
Ingredients:
- 4cl pisang ambon
- 4cl cream of coconut
Method:
- Put some ice-cubes in a shaker and pour the pisang and the coconut cream into it.
- Crush half a glass of ice and put it into the glass (preferably a thick glass).
- Close the shaker, shake it and sift into the glass. (Sift to keep the ice cubes from the glass, you can also just keep the cubes in there and add just a little bid of cold water, will have about the same effect)
Notes:
How lazy can you be? Just two bottles, pour in half of each. It’s the perfect drink for people who like cocktails, but are too lazy to buy a lot of ingredients.
A Blue Moon Special for the Fall
Ingredients:
- An open (not a long one) champagne glass (not really an ingredient, but I better warn you in advance)
- A clean lemon (you need the peel, you can then squeeze the remains for the juice)
- Lemon juice
- Sugar
- 2cl Gin (Gordon’s if there’s need to choose)
- 2cl blue curaçao
- Champagne
Method:
- Dip the top your champagne glass upside down into the lemon juice. Just the tip, I recommend using a saucer to put the juice on. Then dip it into the sugar. Same story here use a saucer.
- Put some ice cubes into a shaker; add the gin and blue curaçao.
- Shake well and sift into the glass.
- Add one ice cube to the glass
- Add champagne until the glass is full
- Add some of the lemon peel, yes, put it in the glass
Notes:
IIt’s expensive and takes some time to make. But let’s face it; it’s sophisticated. When you need to impress someone or have a real party, spice it up with one of these.
A Snow Ball for the Winter
Ingredients:
- 4cl vodka
- 2cl amaretto (Disaronno Originale)
- 2cl cream (not whipped cream)
- Nutmeg
Method:
- Put some ice cubes in a shaker; add the amaretto, wodka and cream.
- Shake into the glass (not a long glass, but preferably a whisky glass)
- Sprinkle some nutmeg over it.
Notes:
Yes, I know most people like a hot drink in winter, but I would find it to be a little lame to suggest Irish coffee or any drink that came down to a fancy name for coffee, tea or hot water and your favorite alcoholic beverage.
