Summertime means icy cold drinks are the perfect afternoon treat. Make a sweet sensation using the recipe tips below and a little crushed ice as a canvas for your cool masterpiece.

Enjoy an ice-cold summertime drink that packs plenty of flavor in a tall glass. The tips below will help you turn a few sweet ingredients and some crushed ice into a sweet summertime treat that helps chase away those hot temperatures.

Cherry Coke Float

Make a sweet and smooth Coke float using crushed ice and regular soda. In between the layers of ice, add a few marachino cherries; add a teaspoon of cherry juice and a teaspoon of vanilla extract to your soda before pouring over the ice. Top with a floating cherry and savor through a straw for an icy blast of soda fountain flavors.

Citrus Chill

Make a sweet orange slushy to keep the heat wave at bay — freeze orange soda in ice cube trays, then crush the cubes and fill a tall glass. Pour orange soda over the crushed ice and top with a citrus slice and a sprig of cool mint. Add a spoon for savoring this sweet treat.

Sassy Lime Smoothie

Combine crushed ice and lime sherbet in a glass, then pour Sprite or a lemon-lime soda over the mixture to make a sweet smoothie with sparkle. Top with a floating scoop of sherbet and a slice or wedge of lime.

Savor a cold drink during the hottest months and keep cool the old-fashioned way with your favorite flavors of summer and a little ice to keep them (and you) extra chilly.
