Derby Day Mint Julep
The Mint Julep is a mixed alcoholic drink or cocktail, associated with the cuisine of the Southern United States.

The Mint Julep cocktail has been promoted by Churchill Downs in association with the Kentucky Derby since 1938. Each year almost 120,000 juleps are served at Churchill Downs over the two day celebration of the annual Kentucky Derby. The Mint Julep is a mixed alcoholic drink or cocktail, associated with the cuisine of the Southern United States.
A Mint Julep is traditionally made with four ingredients: mint, bourbon, sugar, and water. Spearmint is the mint of choice used in Southern states, particularly Kentucky.
Mint Juleps were often served in silver or pewter cups, and held only by the bottom and top edges of the cup. This allows frost to form on the outside of the cup. Now days, Mint Juleps are commonly served in tall old-fashioned glasses, Collins glasses, or highball glasses with a straw.
In keeping with my prior article on the Kentucky Derby, it is only fitting for me to provide a recipe for the Mint Julep. Bottoms Up!
The Early Times Mint Julep Recipe
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
Sprigs of fresh mint
•Crushed ice
Early Times Kentucky Whisky
Silver Julep Cups (or a glass of your choice)
Make a syrup by boiling sugar and water together for five minutes. Cool and place in a covered container with six or eight sprigs of fresh mint. Refrigerate overnight. Make one julep at a time by filling a julep cup (or glass of your choice) with crushed ice, adding one tablespoon mint syrup and two ounces of Early Times Kentucky Whisky. Stir rapidly with a spoon to frost the outside of the cup. Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

Do you have some cool recipes for hot days, Kitty? Please share them whenever you got spare time. Especially those drinks who don’t require too much ingredients because it’s hard to find those things here.
