Grapes are used widely for preparation of wine and are one of the most refreshing and tasty fruit. Grapes are also divided into various types and families. Grapes belongs to two main types:
Vitis Vinifera.
Vitis Labrusca.
These are the two main families, grapes belong to and grapes are divided into 5,000 of different varieties used to prepare wine. Let us have a look at some main types of grapes used to prepare wine.
Barbera grapes are known for its tarry flavor and are found in Italy. Piedmont wine is famous and prepared using this type of grapes.
Chardonnay grapes are produced in Champagne, Australia and Sourth Africa. Wines like Chardonnay used this grape and tasted like watermelon and peach. These types of grapes are white in color and have high level of ripeness.

Gamay grapes are used to prepare famous wine, Beaujolais Nouveau in France. They are also used in United States and other some part of South Africa.
Merlot has gentle flavors of cherry and honey. Bordeaux wine has Merlot wine as its major component and is produced in Italy, France and United States. They are early ripening grapes.
Muscato has different varieties like Muscat Blanc and Muscat of Alexandria and is used for wines like Asti Spumanti. It is grown in Italy.
Apart from the types of grapes mentioned above there are other known grapes like, Nebbiolo, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Goir and Pinotage used for making some famous wines of the world.
