Interesting and funny facts on ten different types of alcohol. You will be surprised to see how many things you didn’t know about the alcohol!

1. Beer

  • Night club in Briton attracted clients by showing them giant, 30 centimetres snail, which was popular because of drinking beer.
  • The peasants of three hoods in Bidgosht (Poland) woke up one morning with beer flowing from their faucets instead of water. The reason was damage in the distribution valve of the local brewery.
  • The best method against rodents is the alcohol. If you have mouse in your home leave bowl of milk, mixed with beer. Collect the “vintage” in the morning – the rodents will not offer resistance.
  • Due to statistics every average Austrian drinks 31 liters of juices, 70 liters of cold-drinks and 116 liters of BEER!
  • Twenty elephants were attracted from the smell of beer, at a local celebration, in India. After the animals emptied the barrels of beer, they attacked the villagers and killed 5 people. Many other people were injured.
  • In the Missouri state there is a law, forbidding people to give beer to elephants.

2. Wine

  • “Meteorito” is the name of the Chilly wine, left to mature with 8 centimeters meteorite in the barrel. The meteorite crashed in the Atakama desert 6000 years ago. The inventor of the special wine says, he was fond of wine and astronomy and combined them both.

3. Whiskey

  • The malt whiskey is this one, produced from only one type of grains. After bottled, the whiskey stops growing ripe, and can preserve its aroma and taste for hundred of years.
  • If you add ice to your whiskey it will lose its flavor, so is recommended to drink pure.

4. Gin

  • After the production of alcohol from fermented fruits and rye began, the people realized, that they can separate the water from the alcohol, and this put the beginning of distillation. The Dutch chemist Dr. Silveus add to the fermented alcohol a special aroma – juniper. This improved the taste of the drink and also gave it some curative properties. The drink was called “Genever” and till 1750, it gained great popularity in England, as the people there consumed 11 millions of gallons per year, from the special drink. Later its name was shortened – Gin.

5. Rum

  • The rum is produced from sugar-cane.
  • The most popular rum brand is Bacardi

  • The favorite pirates drink – “Grog” was consisted of rum with water, contrary to common belief, that it was consisted of rum with tea. The reason of mixing it with water was increasing the quantity, to be sufficient for much longer.

6. Liqueur

  • In the end of the XVII century the liqueur was officially known in all the kingdoms in France. Louie XIV often used to drink liqueur as his favorite brands were Populo and Rossolys.
  • The drink can be made from any kind of fruit, as in the past, they used to add honey in it. Most common ingredients of the drink were strawberries, grapes, raspberries, mulberries and cherries.
  • How to make home liqueur?

Put in a jar any kind of fresh fruit, you want – mulberries, morellos, cherries, grapes and sugar. Then add some Rakia to cover the fruits (or Vodka) and one tea cup of sugar. After 4-5 days (it depends on your own patience), open the jar and your “Tutty – Fruity” is ready. Remove the fruits and drink the juice! You can eat the fruits, but they are very heady, because they absorb the alcohol. If you eat them all you’ll surely have very “funny” evening. (Rakia is a Bulgarian alcohol, made form fermented apricots or plums.)

7. Vodka

  • How the vodka is invented is almost a mystic secret, forgotten long ago. The Russians take the vodka as an eternal substance which has no history, but only future.
  • For the first time, vodka is made in Kremal (Moscow), from grain, wheat or rye alcohol. All the documents about it were destroyed on purpose by the Orthodox Church, after the vodka was claimed to be invention of the Devil. In fact the monks loved vodka not only for its disinfection properties but for its taste and effects.

8.  Tequila

  • The tequila is the heart and soul of Mexico!
  • The tequila is not made from cactus, as many people think. The legend says the Aztecs found the tequila when a lightning stroked a agave plant (part of the Lily family). One man from the tribe toke the plant and drunk its juice. The taste was sweet and enjoyable and he decided, that this was gift from the Gods.
  • The agave plant takes 8 to 12 years to become ripe. After this its interior, called “pina” (because it looks like a pineapple), is used for tequila making. From one pina they make about 12 bottles of tequila.
  • The tequila spoils for 4 years ,so its mature period should be less. When you buy a bottle of tequila and open it, drink it in 2 months, because after that the tequila goes bad.

9. Menthe

  • Back in XVII century the menthe was used as a spice by rich and poor for its great aroma. The kings chambers were decorated with menthe because was believed it improved the brain functions and smelled like summer. Later researches prove that the menthe alcohol is great with ice cream or Sprite, as well as, in different After Shocks and Cocktails. =)

10. Champagne

  • The frothy drink is always connected with strawberries and candles. It appears that the specific pleasant taste of the champagne is due to its bubbles. They are carbon oxides ,which when cracked on the surface, relieve the great aroma of the good champagne.
  • One bottle of champagne may generate over 100 million bubbles.

Great collection of interesting facts. A couple of notes: I promise I won’t ever give elephants beer. The story about the beer coming out of the tap was great- I’ll have to pass that along. Bacardi may be the most popular rum because it is the most plentiful in the US- it’s nothing special- more like a Gallo of rums, so to speak because it is a blend. Also, there are many different and wonderful brands of rum around the Caribbean but Bacardi has such a large company and produces so much it is probably the most distributed rum in the large market of the US. For many, they don’t really know any other brand so it’s probably the most popular by default.

    Fun, informative post! Encore, encore.
