How to Make a Cup (or a Pot) of Tea

published by Sumudu Perera on Nov 18, 2007

Make tea the way it should be made.

What you need:

  • A tea cup(pot)
  • A tea sachet(s)
  • A kettle
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Place some water in the kettle and let it boil
  2. Pour a little amount of boiling water slowly into the tea cup to warm it up. This is done so that the immediate pouring of water in a later step does not crack the cup. Also this makes the cup of tea once prepared, kept as hot without loss of heat to the walls of the cup. Once the cup is warm, pour out all the boiling water.
  3. Let the kettle boil again
  4. Choose a tea sachet and place it in the cup
  5. Pour boiling water into the cup at moderate speed up to or close to the brim of the cup
  6. The tea packet has to stay in the cup for about 1.5 to 2 minutes minimum to get a real tea flavour. Some types of tea make the cup of tea a red tea colour quicker, however good tea requires some time to brew and to get the tea colour in few minutes.
  7. Once ready add some milk, sugar or other additives to taste to suit you. To retain all good health qualities of tea (anti-oxidants, flavonids etc.) scientists say that you should drink tea without milk added!
  8. Traditionally tea is prepared using processed tea leaves (eg: Ceylon BOP – Broken Orange Pecko from Sri Lanka) in tea pots and the same process apply, except use of tea bag and cups directly to make tea
  9. Asian countries serve tea in a pot and visitors are invited to make their own cup of tea such as in Japan, China and other Asian countries

A cup of hot tea always hits the spot. I like a cup when I relax at the end of the day, and its good for you to boot.
