This famous Philippine chicken dish is easy to prepare, and only has a few ingredients in it. It is a very aromatic stew, and the sauce is very delicious. You could serve this at home or in a potluck, party or gathering. Your family and friends will enjoy this authentic Filipino dish!

Easy Chicken Afritada Recipe (Chicken Stew)

Chicken Afritada is a popular Filipino dish.  It is usually served with hot steamed rice.  This chicken dish has a nice dark orange/brown color.  It is a very tasty dish and is usually served for lunch or dinner.  You can use chicken thighs, legs, drumettes, or any parts you prefer.  This is the basic Chicken Afritada recipe, however you could add more ingredients to it such as green peas.  It is best to sauté the potatoes before adding it in.

Ingredients for the Chicken Afritada:

Chicken – sliced into pieces

Potatoes – cubed

Red pepper – sliced into strips

Green pepper – sliced into strips

Afritada mix or meat stew mix

Procedure to cook the Chicken Afritada:

1.      Pan fry the potatoes until golden brown.  Set aside.

2.      Saute the chicken pieces in oil until golden brown.

3.      Dissolve the afritada mix or meat stew mix in water.

4.      Pour this mix into the chicken.

5.      Add water if needed.

6.      Add the pan-fried potatoes

7.      Add the red and green peppers.

8.      Bring to a boil, then let simmer for about half an hour.

9.      Serve and enjoy!
