How to Make Teriyaki Chicken
Teriyaki chicken is a simple and tasty meal that can be prepared ahead of time, in a very short amount of time. It can be considered a "dump" recipe since all of the ingredients are "dumped together.
Teriyaki chicken begins with the teriyaki sauce. Here is the ingredient list:
2 cups soy sauce
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ginger powder
You can adjust these amounts to taste after some experimentation. Combine these ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. It helps to heat the sauce to get the sugar to dissolve, but that will happen when you cook the chicken anyway. Now, put the chicken into a baking dish and pour the sauce over it and cover with aluminum foil. This is generally enough sauce for a 9×12 inch dish. You can let the chicken marinate for a few hours to let the flavor sink in deeper, or cook it right away. When you are ready to cook the chicken, pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees, and cook the chicken for 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on if the chicken was frozen or thawed.
Serve the chicken with hot rice, you can pour the sauce from the pan over the rice for extra flavor. This is also good served with tempura, gyoza, or other Japanese side dishes.
