This is a snack which can be made in 15 minutes.

Ingredients:

Maida or all purpose flour                         1 cup

Butter (Cooking or salted)                        1 tbsp

Salt                                                           3/4 tsp

Red pepper powder (optional)                 1/2 tsp

Oil for deep frying                                     About 2 cups

Preparation:

Take a big shallow bowl and mix the flour, butter, salt and red pepper powder in it.

Add water little by little and make a stiff dough, but which can be rolled.

Flour a board and with a rolling pin and roll out the dough, 2mm thick.

Cut into 1 cm. strips. If too lonf cut into halves. The pieces look like thin ribbon pieces.

Take frying pan for deep frying and heat oil in it. Put a tiny bit of dough in it.If it fizzes and comes to the top, oil is ready for frying. Do not let the oil fume. The heat should be steady.

Remove the dough ribbons with the knife. You cannot take them out perfectly. They do wrinkle a lot. But the oil sets them right.

Drop the ribbons carefully in to the oil.

Fry till the bubble in the oil become very less and the ribbons turn golden yellow.

Remove from the oil and blot excess oil.

Store in air tight containers.

This makes a great tea time snack.
