Spicy Stir Fried Anchovies (Ikan Bilis); A 15 Min Recipe

Spicy Stir Fried Anchovies are easy to prepare and very fast to cook.
Anchovies have great Nutritional Value.
There is no excuse not to try this fast to cook, good to eat dish.

Dried Anchovies can be purchased from Asian Stores.                                     

Nutritional Benefits :Rich in proteins, great source of Vitamins ( Vitamin E & D), Minerals and Calcium, high in polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Generally anchovies are healthy  for everyone in the family, from babies to elderly. ( Of course this dish is only meant for adults as its a little spicy.)

Ingredients

  • 100g of dried anchovies (Soak in cold water for 15 mins and Drain. This is to remove excess salt) Optional
  • 5 garlic pieces ( washed and crushed with the skin)
  • 1 big onions(sliced finely)
  • 1 heap tbsp of chilli powder ( add more if you like it more spicy)
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste or 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • curry leaves ( optional)
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Fry the anchovies until crispy and remove
  2. Add 2 tbsp of the same oil in another pan and heat
  3. Add the curry leaves, onions and garlic and fry until the onions and garlic until slightly brown
  4. Add the tamarind juice or lemon juice and chilli powder
  5. Lower the heat and stir fry all the ingredients until the mixture becomes quite dry
  6. Finally add the fried anchovies and stir in
  7. Remove from pan and serve.
  8. Spicy Stir fried Anchovies can be served with streamed rice or porridge.
