10 Easy Steps To The Perfect Beef Stew and Dumplings

A step by step recipe for beef stew and dumplings that is very easy yet extremely tasty to make.

Ingredients:

(For 2 people)

For the stew:

  • 350g / ¾ lb cubed stewing beef
  • 250g / ½ lb baby onions
  • 250g / ½ lb carrots
  • ½ tsp flour
  • 450ml / ¾ pint hot water
  • Salt & pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil.
  • Bay leaf
  • For the dumplings:-
  • 90g / 3oz self raising flour
  • 40g / 15oz shredded suet
  • Chopped flat leaf parsley
  • Salt & pepper
  • Approx. 3 tablespoons of water

Method

  1. Fry the meat and onions until brown
  2. Sprinkle in the flour and mix well
  3. Gradually stir in the water and bring to the boil, season
  4. Cover and simmer for 1 hour
  5. Add carrots and bay leaf and simmer for further hour
  6. For the dumplings, sieve flour into a bowl
  7. Add suet, chopped parsley and salt and pepper
  8. Add water to make a soft dough
  9. Flour hands and roll dough into smallish balls
  10. Drop dumplings in to the top of the stew to cook for the last 20 minutes

Perfect and tasty stew.
