A Chicago Style Hot Dog

published by Anastasia Zoldak on May 5, 2009

I used this recipe when I lived in Kansas and I got homesick for Chicago. In this hot dog recipe, you will not find any ketchup and that is because a true Chicago-Style Hot Dog does not use any!

Makes 8 Chicago-Style hot dogs with 2 dogs left over

Ingredients

  • 1 package of Vienna Beef hot dogs – For the best result it must be an all beef hot dog!
  • 1 package of hot dog buns with the poppy seeds – Don’t use the plain ones!
  • Yellow Mustard
  • Sweet Pickle Relish
  • 1 Yellow Onion – finely chopped
  • 1 large Tomato cut into eighths – Ripen it up on your kitchen counter and never put it in the fridge.
  • Kosher Dill Pickle Spears
  • Dell Alpe Sport Peppers – This brand is the best one out there!
  • Celery Salt

Method

  1. Steam the hot dogs in a steamer for 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Steam the buns for 2 minutes.
  3. Place the toppings on the hot dog in the following order:
    • Mustard
    • Sweet Pickle Relish
    • Chopped Onions
    • Two Tomato Wedges
    • One Pickle Spear
    • Two Sport Peppers
    • Dash of celery Salt

A great meal for everyone in the family, just take the sport pepper off for the kids!
