Home made American Meatloaf is a great meal to serve at dinner. The delicious American Meatloaf has a mouth watering taste. The rich flavor of beef mixed with onions, garlic, celery an Parmesan cheese an then topped with tasty tomato sauce makes a savory dish that is filling and real easy to make. This home made American Meatloaf recipe can be made in about 1 hour an 45 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1oz Butter
  • 1lb Minced Beef
  • 1 Onion (Chopped)
  • 2 Garlic Cloves (Crushed)
  • 2oz Bulgur Wheat (Soaked)
  • 1oz Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 Celery Stick (Trimmed and Sliced)
  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Purée
  • 2 Tablespoons Instant Oatmeal
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Thyme Leaves (Chopped)
  • Salt and Freshly Ground Black Pepper

Topping

  • 2 Tablespoons Tomato Sauce
  • 5fl oz Sour Cream

Preparation

Grease and line the bottom of a 1-1⁄2lb loaf tin. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Melt the butter in a large pan, and add the minced beef, onion and garlic. Sauté, stirring, for 7 minutes until the meat is brown and sealed. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, and add the remaining ingredients. Mix well, season and spoon into the prepared tin. Cover with foil.

Stand the loaf tin in a roasting tin, and add 1 inch of water. Carefully place in the oven and cook for 1-1⁄2 hours. Mix together the relish ingredients in a bowl. Turn out the meatloaf and garnish with the fresh thyme. Serve with fresh vegetables an top with warm tomato sauce an a little sour cream.

    I haven’t had meatloaf in years. This winter would be a good time to start cooking meatloaf again.
