Beef Curry

published by lindalulu on Nov 13, 2008

My partner is from India so of course he wants food from his home country. I never knew how to make any kind of Indian food, but with his help he taught me. Now I make many Indian dishes with ease. This is my recipe for beef curry. It is very hot and spicy but really good.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of cubed beef cut into small pieces
  • 1 tomato cut in half then sliced
  • 1 onion cut in half and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger chopped
  • 1 teasponn chopped garlic
  • 3 green chilies cut in half
  • 5 curry leaves
  • 1 teaspoon tumeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • pepper to taste

Preparation

In a fry pan saute the onions, chilies, ginger, mustard seeds, curry leaves and garlic. Cook until onions are cooked through and browned. Then add the cut up beef. Cook until beef is cooked through. Add the tumeric, chili powder, coriander, salt and pepper. Fry for a few minutes to cook the spices, then add the tomato and two cups of water. Let cook at low heat until it forms a gravy. Serve with white rice.

I love Indian food but I usually only enjoy it when I am out alone or with friends. My husband isn’t a fan so it makes it difficult when we go out to eat. I never thought of cooking my own but I think I will begin with this recipe. It sounds wonderful.

    Thank you,
    Darlene

I’ll have to try this for the husband. He loves curry, and I can remember a time when I had to prepare dishes for him for lunch to take to work. It sounds delicious, and I’m gathering so many wonderful recipes from people here! Take care.
