How to get Started on Paleo Diet

published by Abella Smith on Aug 8, 2012

When I started having Paleo diet, some people thought that I would not be able to stick to it for long.

They forget one thing that it is not just another weight loss diet plan where you have to forgo your favorite things to get a slim body. The idea is to eat healthy meals without having to survive on soups and juices. Definitely, I felt on the top of the world and won praises from my family and friends for getting back to shape.

In this way I started eating the way I not used to earlier and gave away the habit of having junk.  If you plan to stick on to this diet, you should know what meals and snacks to have. This will help in picking up the stuffs needed for maintaining your Paleo diet. It is a guide that will help in choosing your weekly menu without affecting your budget. This way you can make healthy and delicious recipes for your family. It gives you an idea about meal plans, recipes and companion friendly shopping list. Remember these diets contain no grains, refined sugar, legumes or dairy product.

 What is Paleo Diet?

Since my fitness instructor has already asked me to cut down on starch and grain including rice, bread, refined sugar and pasta, my diet mainly consists of fish, meat, chicken, eggs and salads. You can also include fruit, nuts, seeds and vegetables.  The idea here is to eat what our ancestors used to, which is also known as ‘caveman’s diet’. Paleo diet recipes basically are freshly plucked vegetables right from your organic garden.

Even my friends and family members are following this because with this diet you feel strong, energetic and have low hunger pangs. It has metabolic as well physiological benefits like low cholesterol levels, less insulin secretion and reduced blood pressure. This continues to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. In a way it helps to improve glycaemic control in your body. With high levels of mono-unsaturated diet and Omega -3 fatty acids, this diet plan also has anti-inflammatory benefits. Remember this is not a zero-carb diet.

All you have to do is throw away those packets of chips, cereal bread, pasta and processed food. Shop smartly and buy lots of seasonal veggies, fruits as well food with healthy protein like beef, eggs, free-range or grass-fed chicken and fish. Then cook healthily by adding little protein in every meal with plenty of green salads. In this way Paleo diet can be a success. If I vowed to lead a healthy life so can you.
