Some of the different things you can do with a hotdog besides just eating on a bun.

It seems that no matter what you do hot dogs are one of our staple foods. They are usually served on a bun however there are many other ways in which the ubiquitous hot dog can also be served. It doesn’t make much difference whether they are wearing their skins or are skinless. Regardless of how they are served with or without skins they are not costly and taste good.

Most of us are familiar with the good old hot dog served on a bun with mustard and relish and sometimes sauerkraut or even chili. What you don’t know about the hotdog though is that it can be made into any number of other meals. For instance one of the staple meals made out of hot dogs that most of us have had is franks and beans. There are even any number of variations that can be done with this. Not only can hot dogs be served with beans but they can also be served with chili. Another fine dish is hot dogs and sauerkraut.

Sometimes you don’t want to go with the usual staples allowing your taste buds that are craving something different. One of the more interesting dishes that can be cooked is hot dog stew. In this one you just substitute hot dogs that have been cut up into pieces about an inch long and substituted for the meat in a soup or stew.

If that is a party you can also use hot dogs to make snacks. One of the simpler ones is made by cutting hot dogs up in the short lengths, frying them and then dipping them in a cheese fondue, and then setting them down on a cold plate. Another variation on hot dogs is to cut them to about half inch lengths and frying them into a cheese omelet.

Another variation can be made by adding pieces of hot dogs and rice as a casserole. You can even flavor this with some kind of Spanish or Creole sauce. If that isn’t enough there is even a thing called the “Hotdog Surprise” perfect for a barbecue or taking in a trip this is made by cutting the hot dogs lengthwise so that you have almost sliced them in two but not quite. After performing this rare operation you take fingers of extra sharp cheddar cheese and stuff them into the center of a hot dog and then wind the hotdog with a bacon strip, being sure to make the wrappings diagonal along the length of the hotdog. Then you just put it in your barbecue for a few minutes barbecuing both sides then it’s ready to eat.

These are some of the many ways that you can cook a hotdog. You can make an inexpensive meal of them or you can just eat them for snacks. In many ways they are the universal American food along with a hamburger. We have given you some ideas as to what you can do with them, you can let your imagination serve up other ways of cooking.
