How to Make Pasta in a Microwave

published by guthriefreelance on Aug 15, 2009

When you don’t have access to a range, using a microwave to make pasta is a quick, easy alternative.

 Ingredients

  • Microwave safe container (lid recommended)
  • Pasta noodles
  • Water
  • Olive oil (not required, but highly recommended – see below)
  • Fork
  • Pre-made pasta sauce

Method

  1. Place 1 to 2 inches of noodles in the bottom of the microwave safe container.
  2. Fill the container with water about a quarter of an inch above the top of the noodles.
  3. Pour a small amount of olive oil on top of the water.  This will help limit the noodles sticking together.
  4. Put the lid on the container, but leave one corner vented.
  5. Microwave the pasta for about 3 minutes (all times based on a 1000 Watt microwave – please adjust your times accordingly) and then use the fork to separate and stir the noodles.
  6. Place the container back in the microwave and heat for another 3 to 4 minutes (depending on desired firmness – more time means softer noodles).
  7. Remove the container from the microwave, let stand for 1 minute, and then strain using the lid.
  8. Pour the pasta sauce on top of the noodles and stir them using the fork.  Serve within 10 minutes for maximum freshness.  Makes enough to feed about 2 people.

Congratulations!  You have just made pasta in a microwave!
