Spaghetti Bolognese: A New Twist

published by FinlayL on May 20, 2009

A household recipe of mine with a little twist.

Spaghetti Bolognese is a classic recipe that is loved by everyone but can become a bit boring and tired over time. I have never been taught how to make it but over time I have refined my own method but change it depending on whatever I have in the cupboard.

Ingredients

  • 400g Mince Beef
  • 1 Large Onion (Chopped)
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic (Finely Chopped)
  • 1 Tin of Chopped Tomatoes
  • 1 Tablespoon of Tomato Puree
  • 1 Beef Stock Cube
  • Basil, Oregano, Pepper, Salt, Worcester Sauce
  • 350g Spaghetti (or any pasta you like!)
  • 3 Carrots (Optional)
  • 1 Chili (Optional)

Method

  1. Fry the onions until golden brown in olive oil and then add and brown the mince.
  2. Add the chili (if you like!) and the garlic, followed by the the chopped tomatoes and the puree.
  3. Break the stock cube into it and add a tablespoon of both Basil and Oregano. A dash of Worcester Sauce, pinch of salt and pepper, should also be added and any red wine you may have around.
  4. Leave to simmer for 20 min. Meanwhile, cook the pasta with some olive oil and a pinch of salt.
  5. Add cooked carrots to increase the vegetable content to the sauce or just on the side. Serve with a nice bottle of wine and a fresh salad for a perfect meal!
