Budget cooking for students.

Serves 2 – Ingredients:

  1. 250g of mince. Chopped
  2. 1 tin of chopped tomatoes.
  3. I garlic clove. Crushed.
  4. 2 mushrooms. Chopped.
  5. 1 onion. Chopped.
  6. A pinch of salt and pepper.
  7. 1 table spoon of oil. The cheep stuff will do.
  8. 25g of long pasta.

Optional:

  1. 1 red pepper. Chopped.
  2. 1 chilli. Chopped.
  3. Grated cheese. (Cathedral is best).

Tip:

When buying chillies. Always go for the pickled jar version. They are just as nice, last longer, and still offer a good kick in any meal.

Method:

  1. Get you frying pan out and splash in your oil. Bring to a medium heat.
  2. Now add your mince and cook until golden brown.
  3. Now add your, vegetables and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. While your vegetables are cooking. Stick a full kettle of water on. Once boiled, stick the water in a saucepan. Bring the water to simmering and add your pasta.
  5. Add your salt, pepper, and tin of tomatoes to the cooked mince and vegetables. Simmer and leave until your pasta is cooked.
  6. Your pasta should take around 8 minutes. If you leave it for too long in the boiling water. Your pasta will become soggy. Try and catch it when it still has a slight bite to it. This is called aldenti. Keep stirring the pasta while its cooking. This will stop it from sticking.
  7. Drain your pasta and place it on warm plate. This stops the pasta going cold while your eating.
  8. Now add your cooked ballanase.
  9. Sprinkle your cheese on top for added flavour.

Enjoy!
