published by Ostrich on Jun 8, 2011

“Tastes like chicken” is a common declaration used when trying to describe the flavor of a food that a listener has never tasted before. Over the years, it has come to encompass the foods listed below:

Turtle – Turtle soup which used to be a prized dish in the US still is considered a delicacy in Asia and Gopher Tortoise Stew in a favorite in Florida.  When turtles were almost on the brink of being extinct near Grand Cayman they developed a turtle farm which breeds turtles for their meat and also relases them to the wild to repopulate the Caribbean Sea.

3.Rabbit – European rabbits are served in Europe, South America, North America, and the Middle East. They are also still sold in butcher shops and markets within the UK.

4. Quail – The Domesticated Japanese Quail is considered a delicacy in France, Japan,, Malta, Portugal, and India.  Quails are commonly eaten complete w/bones since they are easily chewed and it is to inconvenient to remove them.

5. Crocodile – Crocodiles are eaten in Australia, Ethiopia, Thailand, South Africa, Cuba (in pickled form), and in US specialty restaurants.  They have a higher cholesterol level than most meats.  The most well served cuts of meat include the backstrap and tail fillet.

6. Octopus – Octopus is eaten in Japan, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, Portugal, Spain, and Greece.  It is used in sushi, chilled with salad, and grilled as steaks.  For every three ounces there are only 139 calories.

7. Alligator – Alligator farming is in GA, FL, TX, and LA.  There are 300,000 sold per year.  They are used in jambalayas, soups, and stews.  For every three ounces there is 200 calories of which 27 calories are from fat.

8.
