Green Bean Casserole with Cheese
published by thestickman on Sep 23, 2008
An improvised recipe that I tried of my own invention, based upon a verbally-relayed list of potential ingredients. It turned out amazingly delicious.
Okay sure, -I know it’s been done a thousand times already, but the other day I made my first Green Bean Casserole from the verbally relayed ingredients-only that my wife provided. I took a try at it with some improvisation and it turned out FANTASTIC!!
Fast, only takes about 10 minutes to prepare and is surprisingly delicious.
Ingredients
- One 1-Kg bag thawed Frozen Green Beans (may substitute equal amount canned Green Beans)
- One can Condensed Cream of Mushroom soup
- 1/3 stick butter
- One can Dried Onion Rings
- One-half cup coarsely chopped Mozzarella cheese
- (Optional) one-half cup frozen or canned Peas & Carrots
- Parmesan or Romano grated cheese
- Bread Crumbs
Method
- Place 1-Kg bag thawed frozen green beans in a large mixing bowl, and set aside.
- In a second bowl, combine whole can of condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup with a half-cup milk and 1/3rd stick butter. Heat slightly on stovetop to melt the butter evenly. Does not have to be hot, just blended. Pour warm thick mixture on top of Green Beans in mixing bowl and blend.
- Add half-cup coarsely chopped mozzarella to bowl, and half-cup Peas and Carrots and several tablespoons breadcrumbs, and 1/3 can of dried onion rings. Stir coarsely until blended.
- Pour mixture into glass baking pan, place in oven at 350 degrees F for 20-minutes. Bake.
- Remove after 20-to-25-minutes and sprinkle remaining dried onion rings over surface of mixture, add more Parmesan or Romano shaker cheese and breadcrumbs, and return to oven for another 10-to-15 minutes, or until bubbling.
It’s ready. Serve hot.
Receive praise and kudos!
Enjoy!

Sounds delicious.
I’ve never used cheese in mine before so I’ll have to give your recipe a try.

Yeah, -my wife said the same thing. She was going to give me ‘her recipe’ for Green Bean Casserole but could not find it, so she told me that it involves ‘thawed frozen green beans, Creamof Mushroom soup and dried onion rings’ and could not provide more details than this, so, I improvised. And we LOVED it!!
I only had about 1/3rd lbs. of Mozzarella brick, from having had Poutine the previous night, so I chopped that up and threw it in. And it was there… you could definitely taste it and we liked it, -alot!

Thanks Kim.
When I placed mozzarella cheese with the green beans, it was an impulse action. I had about a half-cup of left-over shredded Mozza cheese from the previous night’s Poutine.
I think too much cheese might compromise the Green Bean’s ‘traditional’ place, but that little bit that I added was phenomenal.
Oh, -the URL your cited doesn’t return; could you check that and re-post it here.
