Misua at Sayote

published by Thomas Hodge on Jun 2, 2009

This is a recipe for a vegetarian Filipino dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches of Misua
  • 1/2 of a sliced onion
  • 3 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tbsps chopped ginger
  • 3 cups of vegetable soup stock
  • 2 sayotes
  • 2 tbsps of peanut oil
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of fresh ground black pepper

Method

First, saute your garlic in oil. This will provide a good base. Next, add onion and ginger and fry them until the onions are translucent. Then, add your vegetable soup stock.  Add the salt and the freshly ground pepper and bring to a boil. Once it is at a boil, drop in the sayote.  Simmer until the sayote is tender. When it becomes tender, add the misua and stir so that it will not stick. Let stand for about 3 minutes, then serve.

What’s Misua, Thomas? I doubt that we can get it in the UK.

Misua is salted wheat noodle. If you want to try rice noodles instead that would work too.
