Caprese Salad

published by JoeLopy on Jul 31, 2010

Caprese is a very simple dish. It is ready in 10 minutes and it is incredibly tasty.

Caprese is a salad dish originally from the island of Capri (a small island opposite the city of Naples). The main ingredients are the buffalo milk mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, basil and extra virgin olive oil. It can be served as a starter accompanied with toasted rustic bread. This is the way I like it!

It serves 4 or 5;

- 1 pound (500gr.) Fresh buffalo milk mozzarella, sliced into rounds;

- 1 pounds (1 Kg.) of fresh sun-ripe tomatoes, sliced into rounds;

- Fresh basil leaves, hand-shredded (at least 10-12 leaves);

- Extra virgin olive oil;

- Dried oregano (optional);

Preparation: Slice tomatoes and mozzarella into rounds and place them on a plate. Season with the extra virgin olive oil, basil, oregano and a little salt and pepper (if you like).

Ready!

I like to accompany this dish with toasted rustic bread. Slice the bread, toast it and add the mozzarella, tomato and basil on the top of each slice. Season with extra virgin olive oil, oregano, salt and pepper. Serve.
