Potatoes add taste to whatever you are cooking – curries or snacks.

Here is a recipe for a tasty teatime snack with poatato.

Ingredients

  • Potatoes cooked and mashed and salted    1 cup
  • Oil for deep frying      1 cup

For the batter:

  • Flour (preferably gram flour)  1/2 cup
  • Rice flour (optional; it makes the fritter more crispy) 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli   1 (deseeded and cut in to small pieces)
  • powdered bread (dry the bread in a microwave oven and powder it coarsely) 1 tbsp
  • Butter  1 tsp
  • Salt    1/2 tsp

Method

  1. Mix the flour with the butter, chilli pieces and salt well. Add water little by little to make a medium batter(not too thick)
  2. Make the potato into balls, the size of marbles.
  3. Heat the oil.(put a bit of potato in the oil to see if it is hot enough. If it turns a golden brown in 10secs, reduce the flame and keep it steady)
  4. Dip the potato balls in the batter and roll in the bread powder.
  5. Drop the balls into the oil.
  6. You can put four at a time. Keep turning them till they are evenly browned to a golden colour.
  7. Remove from oil carefullywith forks.
  8. Blot the excess oil.
  9. The potato fritter balls are ready.
