On The Shores of Lake Tanganyika

There is a recipe from Burundi which has its administrative city on Lake Tanganyika called Bujumbura. The recipe is made of ndagala a small salty fish which is available in large quantities in the deepest lakes.

Green bananas and ndagala

Recipe for five

Ingedients

  •  5 green bananas
  • 500 mg of fresh ndagala
  • 3 big red tomates
  • 1 tea spoon of cooking oil

Method

  1. Peel the green bananas
  2. Wash the green peeled bananas
  3. Cut bananas in small chunks
  4. boil green bananas and leave them firm
  5. Wash the ndagala
  6. Boil the 3 big red tomatoes
  7. Peel the 3 big red tomatoes
  8. Put the ndagala and the red peeled tomotoes in the green bananas, add 1 tea spoon of oil and cook for 30 minutes.

  • The ndagala is a small fish which can be deep fried or fried.
  • The are two sorts of ndagala the fresh ndagala and the dry ndagala.
  • You have to cook the fresh ndagala but not the dry ndagala.
  • There are many fishermen on lake Tanganyika which fish each day millions of ndagala.
