Sambar Masala Powder: Used to Prepare Mouthwatering Indian Sambar
Sambar is the most popular vegetarian Indian sidedish served with South Indian meals. It is popular for its awesome taste. It is highly nutritious. It is also easy to make. The sambar Masala Powder is one of the main ingredient used to prepare sambar.


Ingredients
- Asafoetida(optional) One teaspoon
- Black pepper 25 gram
- Bengal gram Dal 200 gram
- Coconut (grated) Three tablespoon
- Coriander Seeds 250 gram
- Fenugreek Seeds (Methi) 25 gram
- Oil As required
- Red Chillies 250 gram
- Toor Dal 200 gram
Method
- Keep the chilli, and dry coconut separately for use after dry roasting.
- Heat a heavy bottomed vessel and and dry roast fenugreek seeds, toor dal, chana daal, and bengal gram dal and on low-medium heat.
- Keep stirring constantly till the ingredients release nice aroma and turn reddish brown color. Take care not to over heat and burn them.
- Add dry coconut and toss them on medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Remove from pan keep aside.
- Now sprinkle small amount of oil in the pan, add the red chilli and coriander seeds and keep stirring for 3-4 minutes till the contents get fried. Remove and cool.
- Once cool, collect all the ingredients and grind to a coarse powder. Stop grinding when the ingredients show the rough texture.
- Finally add asafoetida and blend well.
- Store this sambar masala powder in an air-tight container.
- Use this powder as required whenever you prepare sambar
