Gluten Free Living – Recipe 1 – BBQ Sauce

An easy, delicious, gluten free BBQ sauce.

Along with the Gluten Free Living series of articles, I will also be posting several recipes that are guaranteed to be gluten free and tasty.

Original Style BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 large yellow onion, very finely chopped
  • 4 large garlic cloves, very finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup ketchup style chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 2 tbsp honey or dijon mustard (make sure it’s gluten free)
  • 1 tbsp Tamari sauce (gluten free soy sauce alternative)
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha hot chile sauce

Method

  1. Put olive oil in medium sized saucepan on medium heat. Once oil is hot add onions. Fry onions, stirring often, until fragrant, about 6 minutes. Add garlic and fry another 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add all of the other ingredients, except chile sauce, and leave on medium heat for approximately 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Once the sauce is simmering reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for another 15 minutes. Make sure to leave the saucepan uncovered as you want the sauce to reduce.
  3. Add the chile sauce and simmer another 10 to 15 minutes. The chile sauce will not make the BBQ sauce spicy, so if you want a little zing add an extra tbsp of chile sauce.
  4. Once the sauce has reduced a bit take it off the heat and put into mason jars or another storage container. In an airtight container this sauce will be good for up to six weeks. Just make sure to keep it refridgerated!

For my patients, the hardest part of recovery is getting off gluten. So what can I eat doc? How many times do I hear that. We even have a booklet from Apex Energetics on how to eat gluten free. Timely post. Thanks for sharing
