How to Make Butter Biscuits?

published by Burcu Unal on Oct 3, 2009

A recipe for butter biscuits which are very quickly and easily prepared. They will be your favourite!

I love making butter biscuits at home because they are very tasty, crispy and guess what! Easier than easy to prepare! Here I give a recipe for plain ones but you can make them ginger biscuits by adding a touch of ginger or add a touch of cinnamon and get another taste. You can also decorate them with coloured Castor sugar that you can prepare at home very easily, with some food colorants, Castor sugar and water. You can make delicious and cute looking Christmas biscuits, put them one by one in little transparent bags, tie with a small ribbon and hang on your tree . You can give them as presents to  guests, your friends or family any time, be it Christmas or not. We do not have Christmas here so I am planning to prepare them as gifts, for fun.

Ingredients

  • 125gr. butter
  • 75 gr.Castor sugar
  • Yolk of an egg
  • 5 gr. Vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 250 gr. Flour

Method

  1. With the help of a spoon work the Castor sugar into butter.
  2. Put the yolk of egg and the vanilla on top of it. It is important to put vanilla after yolk because it eliminates the smell. Mix all again.
  3. Add the flour and the water.
  4. Knead the dough till it is smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin. It should become thick as a biscuit.
  6. Meanwhile start heating the oven at 180°C.
  7. Put a grease proof paper on the oven tray to prevent the cookies sticking. This will help the afterwards cleaning a lot. Put the biscuits you made on the tray.
  8. Roll the leftovers of the dough again to make new biscuits. Continue till there is no more dough to roll out. Make different shapes of biscuits with cookie cutters.
  9. Bake the biscuits for about 8-10 minutes. Watch them time to time while baking because as they are very thin they might easily become over baked and even burn.

Enjoy!
