Appetizers – Tuna Crostini Puff Up
An easy finger food appetizer.
This is a great finger food and is such an easy appetizer to make, you won’t believe it. This is my variation on an appetizer my mom used to make back in the 70’s.
Tuna Crostini Puff Up
2 regular sized packages of cream cheese (set them out an hour to 45 minutes before preparing)
2 green onions
2 green onions chopped and then chopped again so that the pieces are very small
A few sprigs of fresh dill for garnish
1 Loaf of French or Italian bread sliced in to 1 1/2 to 2 inch slices
With your hand mixer beat the egg and the cream cheese together and then add in the green onion and continue to mix until it is blended in.
Place the bread on a cookie sheet and place it under the boiler in your oven until one side is nice and crusty. This will happen fast usually just a couple of minutes so keep your eye on the bread.
Once the one side is all toasted take the bread out and spread each piece with the cream cheese mixture. then place it back under the broiler until the cheese puffs up a bit. This should only take about 1 minute so stand by.
Garnish each piece with a little fresh dill. If you don’t have time to do this that is fine too.
You want to serve these hot so wait until the last minute to prepare them. You can mix up the cream cheese, egg, and green onion in advance but no more than two hours in the fridge, take it out of the fridge a half hour before you need to put it on the bread so it will be easily spreadable.
