Ways to Make a Simple Orange Marmalade
A recipe on orange marmalade.
Making your own orange marmalade can be quite fun and easy Here are the steps you should follow to make one.
Ingredients
- 1kg ( About 4 large )
- 8 cups (2 litres) water
- About 2,4kg white sugar
Method
- Cut the oranges into halves and then cut them into very thin slices. Keep the pips. Place the pips into in a bowl with 1 cup (250ml) water. Cover and leave to stand. Place the sliced oranges in a large bowl and pour the other 7 cups of the water over.
- With a spoon, carefully remove the pips from the water and add that water to the large bowl with orange slices and water. Throw the pips away and pour the oranges and water into a large pot. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer until the orange slices are very soft
- Use 1 cup (250ml) of sugar for every 1 cup (250ml) of orange mixture. Add the sugar and stir without boiling, until dissolved. Bring to the boil and simmer without a lid for 40-60 minutes or until the marmalade thickens slightly when a small amount is spooned onto a cold saucer
- Leave to stand for 5 minutes and then spoon the marmalade into sterilised glass jars. Seal with sterilised lids. Clean the jars and leave to cool to room temperature. Store in a cool, dark cupboard.
