Top Nine Ways to Cook Potatoes

Potatoes are a cheap and versatile main course, side dish or treat. Below you will find my personal top nine ways to cook potatoes, healthy or not.
Fries
- Peel Potatoes and Slice it into 1/4 inch slices length wise, and then slice the wedges once more for thin French fries.
- Heat oil in a deep pan, or warm up the deep fryer
- Add potatoes once the oil is very hot (if not hot enough the potatoes will be soggy and greasy)
- Stir potatoes until golden
- Drain on paper towels or napkins. Season with salt and pepper, or garlic salt for a different taste
Mashed Potatoes
- Peel and cut potatoes into cubes
- Bring potatoes to a boil in a large pot (add salt if needed)
- Let potatoes simmer for 20 minutes until soft
- Drain potatoes
- Heat ½ cup of milk with ½ butter (you can also substitute with cream cheese or sourcream)
- Add butter and milk to potatoes chunks, and use a potato masher, potato rice or mill to achieve your preferred consistency.
- Season to taste
Baked Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 450°F
- Was potato and pierce twice with a fork or knife
- Bake 60 mins or until tender
- Add toppings, sour cream, chives, cheese, butter etc.
Oven Roasted Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 425°F
- Without peeling, cut big potatoes in two, smaller potatoes left whole
- Place potatoes on baking dish or cookie sheet
- Drizzle with olive oil or butter. Add any seasoning
- Roast potatoes uncovered for 1 hour, or until soft and golden brown
Pancakes
- Grate potatoes and onions
- Mix potatoes, onion, 1 egg and 2 tablespoon of flour
- Heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan
- Form potato pancakes in your preferred size and place in the pan
- Cook until golden, then flip to cook the other side
Hash browned Potatoes
- Peel and shred potatoes
- Mix together potatoes, a shopped up onion and seasoning
- Heat frying pan with 2 tablespoons of butter
- Add potatoes to the frying pan and cook for 15 minutes
- When bottom is golden brown, flip upside down and cook for another 10 mins
- Serve with cheese, ketchup or salsa
Scalloped Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 350°F
- Melt 1/3 cup butter in sauce pan with 3 garlic cloves
- Add 1 cup of cream and bring to a simmer. Add any seasonings
- Wash, peel, and slice potatoes fairly thinly
- Layer the potato slices in a baking dish while sandwiching between layers of sauce
- Bake covered for 75 mins. Poke potatoes to test for tenderness
Potato Chips
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or heavy pot on the stovetop.
- Slice potatoes as thinly as possible
- Cook small amount of chips at a time to avoid them clumping together
- Once chips turn golden, stir or flip upside down to ensure even cooking on both sides
- Once cooked, remove and blot with paper towels to sop up extra oil
- Season as desired and serve
Stuffed Potatoes/Jacket Potatoes
- Preheat oven to 375°F
- Poke holes in the potato and rub with butter
- Cook for 45 mins in the oven
- Let cool for 15 mins
- Cut potatoes in half and scoop out some of the inside of the potatoes
- Place innards in a bowl and and add butter, salt, pepper, and mix thoroughly
- Stir in cheese, bacon, sour cream, chives, and seasonings
- Fill potatoes with the mixture and bake at 375°F for another 20 mins or until golden brown/cheese melted
