Deviled Spare Ribs

6 medium potatoes
6 medium onions
2 1/2 pounds spare ribs, cut in servings
Peel potatoes and onions and place in roaster with spare ribs. Over this, pour a combination of the following:
1/2 cup tomato ketchup
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
2 tablespoons pure vinegar
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon brown sugar (or more to taste)
1 cup water
Cover and bake in moderate oven at 375 degrees 1 3/4 hours, or until vegetables are tender. Baste 3 or 4 times during baking and remove cover last 30 minutes to allow meat to brown. If sauce is not thick, boil over direct heat.
