Eggs Boiled in Urine and Eaten! Quite The Chinese Treat But I Think I Will Pass!!!

Eggs in China are being boiled in urine and eaten by many people; this tradition has been occurring for thousands of years!
China has been boiling eggs in urine collected from the pee of young Chinese boys for thousands of years. This is considered to be a long cultural tradition and many people find the urine soaked eggs to be delicious.
There is word from cultural officials that this tradition could possibly be passed on throughout the world. Although I respect the Chinese culture, I would not be keen on eating these eggs. Urine is considered to be sterile, but the mental image of someone peeing on eggs makes me want to gag.
I suppose that people around the world have a taste for weird and interesting food items, such as octopus, eels, putrid shark (Iceland), dog, and even blood. I have not had any of these items, but I am sure that Andrew Zimmerman from Bizarre Foods has discovered some tasty treats that a lot of people would hesitate to eat.
I do, however, love Chinese food such as Chinese Spare Ribs, Egg Drop Soup, Mongolian Beef, Sweet and Sour Pork, and Teriyaki Beef, and do not forget the ubiquitous fortune cookies with the special good luck message in the middle as well as the lottery numbers at the bottom of the slip.
What are your thoughts about the Chinese urine-soaked eggs? Quite interesting stuff, that is for sure.

This is awesome.
Aztec physicians used urine to clean external wounds to prevent infection, and administered it as a drink to relieve stomach and intestinal problems.
In India, the ancient ‘ayurvedic’ medicinal system calls urine ’shivambu’ and there is lot of information on ’shivambu therapy’ on the web.
Chinese folk medicine also documents use of boys’ urine as a remedy when herbal medicines are not available.

boiled in urine? I don’t have any idea in such cultural tradition.but thanks for the info.. Now, I will be more conscious about the boiled egg!..
