Lettuce and Its Benefits
The vitamins and nutrients we can derive from lettuce.
Lettuce has been marked as the “King of Salads”. The demand for this leafy vegetable is rapidly increasing as well as its popularity in restaurant industry. What’s more with the one that is organically produced.
Its varieties can be distinguished from its leaf, size, texture and color. The color of its leaves ranges from light to dark green. The latter contains more vitamins. Lettuce has two varieties. The one which looks similar to cabbage or the iceberg lettuce is the juicy one, and is rich in choline. The Romaine lettuce (loose-leafy variety) has more nutrients compare to the other. It is rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, C, and other essential nutrients and minerals such as calcium, protein, dietary fiber and carbohydrates.
Furthermore, red lettuce contains more nutrients than the green ones. It is a great source of calcium, iron, manganese, and vitamins such as B complex, A, K and C. Its pigments serve as antioxidants that remove free radicals from our body. In addition to that, there were reports that lettuce has a pain relieving property in its outer leaves and stems which is powerful as morphine.

I love lettuce but it doesn’t love me. It digests so slow and gas builds in my upper intestine and pain is almost unbearable. Yet I consume as much as I can. I guess we really do crave the things in life that is bad for us.
