My Laundry Soap
Five gallons water
1 bar fells naptha
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax.
Plain and simple. So easy. Who could mess it up?
Everything about this “recipe” is so easy, kids could make it. However, for some reason, I always mess it up. You grate the bar of soap in a gallon of water till it dissolves, then add the other ingredients and wait for them to dissolve. Then you pour it into a big bucket (one that will hold more than 5 gallons) and add 4 gallons of cold water. Let it sit too cool down, mix it with your bare hands and use it. How could anyone mess this up?
What isn’t mentioned in the above directions is PATIENCE. I don’t have much patience, so the first time I made this, I added the washing soda and borax after I added the cold water. BIG mistake! That makes it clumpy and hard, nearly impossible to use. The second time I made this, I forgot the “recipe” and made it with 1/2 a cup of each item and 6 gallons of water! Another big mistake because this makes it too liquidy making it not work properly. And on to the third time of making it. Which happened to be today.
I added everything acording to “recipe”, waited for the bar to dissolve before adding anything else, added the CORRECT amount of borax and washing soda, and started doing dishes so they could dissolve. OOPS! I am way too impatient, found the key to my problem. I stopped cooking them too early and didn’t let the other two items dissolve enough. I made it one step further than the other times, but it still won’t come out perfect.
Hear me on this. If you want to attempt to make this, follow my directions and be patient. You can let it sit on medium heat with out boiling over but still hot enough to dissolve everything. Don’t turn it up too high to speed up the process because it will boil over and your kitchen will smell like laundry soap for weeks.

This seems great, but it’s not a soup.

Miranda you are supposed stir it continually until it is all dissolved. You are not supposed to let it sit at all. And if you stir continually it only takes about a minute to dissolve.
