Review of Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp From Applebee’s

I had this as part of our anniversary lunch. What did I think of it?

My wife and I recently celebrated the 12th anniversary of our first date and, since I had a gift certificate, ended up having lunch at our local Applebee’s as part of that celebration.

When we got to the restaurant, I wasn’t really sure what I was in the mood for. I originally thought about getting some sort of burger (like my wife did) but ultimately ended up ordering their Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp.

The primary reason for this order was what came with the chicken. In addition to shrimp, the entrée also included mushrooms and onions, something I’m also a big fan of. Plus, it was something I hadn’t tried before so I figured I would be a bit daring and order it just because it was different from what I would normally order.

Overall, I was pretty happy with this menu selection. The food, which was served while it was still sizzling in the pan, was fantastic. The chicken had just the right amount of Cajun flavor to it. It had a different taste but, unlike so many other restaurants I’ve been to, they didn’t go overboard with it to the point I couldn’t eat it. In addition, the shrimp and mushroom/onion combination I mentioned were perfect compliments to it.

I will say I wasn’t overly crazy about the red potatoes that were served with it. I normally like red potatoes, but these had a bit of a dry flavor to them that I just didn’t care for. If I were to change anything about this menu item, it would be that and, at very least, it would have been nice to have the option to substitute fries for the potatoes.

Another thing I wasn’t too impressed with was the overall quantity. I saw a lot of empty space in that skillet. The food did prove to be filling. But I also cleaned my plate completely and, at nearly $11, it would have been much better if there were some leftovers to take home.

As I said before, overall, I liked this Applebee’s entrée. However, because of those last two things, I’m not sure if this is something I would order off their menu again or if I would look for one of my usual items the next time I’m dining at the restaurant.
