I don’t often make a fancy dessert but every now and then there is an occasion that calls for it and I have several recipes. More often than not though I try to make something fruity unless the occasion calls for something specific like a favorite birthday cake. Poached pears are one of my favorites. On my trawl through the archives I came across this vegetarian recipe which should appeal to vegetarians and meat lovers alike. The main ingredient, vegetable suet, may not be readily available in the US but, at the bottom of the recipe I have found a couple of websites where you can order British food online, so if you don’t like the recipe, you may find some other things on there to tickle your taste buds!

I know a lot of adults out there add a drop of whisky to their late night milky beverage but this recipe I came across has a very distinct Christmassy feel to it and there’s no need for milk.
