Mandarin Orange & Soy Sauce Glazed Tilapia
For those of you who are trying to eat healthy, tilapia is a very light fish, low in fat and calories. It’s also low in flavor, which means you can do anything with it!
This is part 1 of a 3 part series of tilapia recipes. The other two are linked here:
1. Baked Lemon and Dill Tilapia

(So what if I took a bite before I took the photo?!)
This is a recipe I adapted from a recipe my mom has for salmon and a soy sauce, honey/beer glaze. It’s sweet and salty at the same time, and it’s loaded with unexpected flavor. I feel that this glaze really pronounced the tilapia’s flavor and made it more than a moldable piece of meat.
Ingredients: Fish
- 1 small baking dish
- 2 tsp of ginger
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp black pepper

Ingredients
- 1 small can of Mandarin Oranges in Light Syrup
- 1/2 tbsp. Honey
- 1 tbsp Soy Sauce (You can add more as you go on to taste)
- 1 tsp Ginger
- 2 tsp Minced Garlic
- 1 tsp Butter
- 1 tsp Rice Vinegar (Apple Cider Vinegar works too)

Method
- Preheat an oven to 450 Degrees
- Heat a small sauce pan to high and pour in the syrup from the Mandarin Oranges
- Add the rest of the sauce ingredients except the oranges themselves
- Bring to a boil and let it reduce a little
- Then turn it to a medium simmer
- After about 10 minutes, add the oranges to the sauce itself and smash them around with a wooden spoon
- Turn it back to high
- Let it reduce for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat
- Put the Tilapia on the small baking dish
- Season with salt, pepper, and ginger
- Let the fish sit for 5 minutes to absorb some of the salt
- Pour it over the Tilapia
- It’ll start to cook them through, so you can let it sit on them for about 5 minutes before you put them in the oven. If you make the sauce before hand enough you can just use it as a marinade, I like to cook it through in the sauce
- Put the fish in the oven for 5 minutes at 450 degrees
- Remove, and enjoy
The fish should be light and flakey to your fork, and should have an orangish brown glaze over it, with little chunks of delicious sauce infused orange all over it.
I hope you fish lovers out there like this! I also have another two Tilapia recipes coming up, Lemon Honey Mustard Tilapia and Tilapia Cakes. If any of you follow my articles, you may realize I like turning fish into cakes and burgers. It’s probably because I love crabcakes! Either way, hope you enjoyed and let me know your thoughts on it!
