Slow Cooked Bolognese for Spaghetti

A quick easy recipe for bolognese sauce, one you can make in the crock pot (slow cooker in the UK) and leave all day to come home to the most delicious smells.

Ingredients

  • 500g mince of your choice – beef, turkey, quorn etc…
  • 2 large onions
  • 200 g mushrooms
  • 2 courgettes
  • 1 small aubergine
  • 3 small carrots
  • 2 cans chopped tomatoes
  • Tomato puree
  • A “glug” of red wine
  • Garlic puree / granules / cloves 
  • Spices:- paprika, tumeric, caynenne pepper

Method

  1. Brown the mince – put in crock pot.
  2. Soften the onions – put in crock pot.
  3. Chop the mushrooms and lightly fry – put in crock pot.
  4. Chop the courgettes and lightly fry – put in crock pot.
  5. Chop the aubergine and lightly fry – put in crock pot.
  6. Grate the carrots  – put in crock pot.
  7. Place the chopped tomatoes in the crock pot.
  8. Add in herbs, spices, purees etc to taste.
  9. STIR!
  10. Add wine and stir again…
  11. Turn crock pot onto the “cook” setting and leave for 4 – 8hrs

Cook the pasta and serve with the bolognese sauce. You can have this on it’s own with some grated italian cheese or garlic bread… the choice is yours.
